Town FC 2010Claro KSAFA Jackie Bell knockout Champions
|
Former national striker Fabian
Dawkins scored two early goals as August Town captured their
first Claro KSAFA Jackie Bell knockout title with a 2-1 win over
Cavalier at the Waterhouse Mini-Stadium on Saturday night.
Dawkins opened the scoring after 22 seconds before Cavalier knew
what hit them, he doubled the advantage in the third minute
which proved decisive for August Town.
Oneal Morrison pulled one back for Cavalier in the 89th minute
but came too late for the Super League champion.
August Town under new coach Onandi Lowe, walked away with
$350,000 winning prize while Cavalier received $200,000 for
their losing effort.
On a cold and rainy evening at Drewsland, before the fans had
settled in, premier league strugglers August Town stamped their
authority on the game.
Dawkins, the former Village United stalwart who also represented
Atlanta Silverbacks and later joined the Montreal Impact in the
United Soccer League (USL) First Division, stunned Cavalier
straight from the kick off with a combination of four passes.
Before fans realized what has transpired Dawkins popped up to
nod home in the third minute and Cavalier were clearly
devastated.
With the fans clearly rooting for the underdogs Cavalier
responded well with Loxsley Thompson, Oneal Morrison, Donovan
Alvaranga, Richard Hoo (formerly of August Town) and Julian
Nugent but squandered a few half chances.
In the 44th minute Thompson, saw his close range effort blocked
on the line by a defender. The follow up shot by Alvaranga
crashed into the side netting as Cavalier tried desperately to
get back in the game.
August Town clearly in control and with their relegation battle
on their minds, pulled Dawkins midway the second half for a
well-deserved rest.
And with a minute of normal time remaining Morrison forced home
a shot to bring some respectability to the scoreline for
Cavalier, the club of KSAFA President Rudolph Speid.
It was a decent performance from a Cavalier outfit that has been
inactive for five weeks after winning the Claro/KSAFA Super
League crown.
Congrats to first time premier league coach Onandi Lowe and
August Town for capturing the prestigious Claro KSAFA Jackie
Bell trophy.
Claro KSAFA Confederation
Under-20 League
Meanwhile in the Claro KSAFA
Confederation Under-20 League, Harbour View and Waterhouse
continued their impressive run after chalking up their fourth
consecutive wins.
Leaders Harbour View brushed aside Arnett Gardens 3-0 with goals
from Jeremie Lynch (21st), Prince Samuels (43rd) and Marlon
Abrahams. It was Samuels who scored a three timer last week to
move his goal tally to seven from four games.
Harbour View moved to 12 points with a superior goal difference
of plus 14 compared to Waterhouse’s plus 12 with Real Mona
occupying third place on nine points.
In contrast Arnett Gardens have lost all four games and remained
rooted at the bottom without a point.
Harbour View currently has the unique distinction of leading in
three different age group leagues.
The Stars of the East are on top in the Premier League, the
Under-21 League and the KSAFA Under-20 Confed league.
Meanwhile Waterhouse drubbed Real Mona 5-1 with Darren Mattocks
registering a hattrick in the 35th, 38th and 64th minutes and
took his tally to five for the season. Ricardo Samuels ably
supported him in the 25th and 79th minutes for his third and
fourth goals. Devon Williams got the consolation and his third
goal of the season for Real Mona in the 38th minute.
At Collie Smith Drive, the visiting Tivoli Gardens trampled
Boys’ Town 4-0 with Kevin Reid grabbing a brace in the 28th and
64th minutes. Kavel Smith (18th) and the talented Troydan White
(34th) completed the rout.
It was the first win for Tivoli Gardens and they remained in
seventh spot on four points with a game in hand. However, Boys’
Town stayed fourth on six points.
A 49th minute strike from Ricardo Davis gave Cavalier a 1-0 win
over Cooreville Gardens and moved to four points in eighth spot.
Despite suffering their second loss from four games, Cooreville
remained in fifth spot on six points.
At Barbican, home team Barbican FC and Meadhaven United battled
to a 1-1 draw.
Kemar Henry gave Meadhaven a 19th minute lead before Ramone
McGregor earned a share of the points for Barbican in the 56th
minute.
Meadhaven moved to two points from three games and remained in
ninth place while Barbican climbed off the bottom of the table
into 10th spot with a point.
The game between Bull Bay and Maverley/Hughenden was not played
as Maverley failed to show for the second time. Last week the
team failed to show for their home game against Tivoli Gardens.
To date they have played only one game losing 0-6 to Boys’ Town
while Bull Bay remained in sixth spot on six points.
