lives, such as in schools and in their own community.

DISCIPLINE, WE SHALL NEVER GIVE UP”
HISTORY OF BARBICAN FOOTBALL
CLUB
In 1974, some members of the
Barbican community acknowledged the need for underprivileged
youths of the area to have some form of venue for recreation and
socialization.
The Prime Minister at the time,
the Rt. Hon Michael Manley, was approached to assist in
acquiring Government owned lands in the area, with the intention
to develop a football field and community center. In 1975, the
acquisition of 10 acres of land, adjacent to the residence of
the Governor General at King’s House. This became the start of a
very proud institution and major football entity called,
Barbican Football Club.

CURRENT STATUS OF BARBICAN
FOOTBALL CLUB
The decline of the economy of
Jamaica over the last 30 years contributed greatly to the
decline in Barbican Football Club’s involvement and inclusion of
the community in its operations as funding has been limited.
Securing sponsorship for the Club has become increasingly
difficult, and time consuming. Over the last five years Barbican
Football Club has fallen on hard times, but through this, the
tradition of maintaining strong football teams to enter all the
football competitions has been fulfilled with the financial
assistance of a few committed members of the Club.
Barbican Football Club now
boasts a newly refurbished football pitch, a Beach Football
field, and plans to build an Artificial Turf football pitch in
the near future. We are committed to the future of Youth
Football in our community, and in Jamaica .
Barbican Football Club is also
the home of Jamaica ’s National Teams for Beach Football, and
for Beach Volleyball.
