Cavaliers took a giant
step towards capturing the Claro KSAFA Super League with a
whopping 7-0 win over Real Mona.
Cavaliers moved to 46 points
from 20 games and with a game in hand against Mountain View and
one to play against Barbican are odds on favourites to be
crowned Super League champion.
Last year they lost out on goal
difference and made no mistake at Collie Smith Complex this time
around. Both Donovan Alvaranga (31st & 58th) and Kirk Fletcher
(78 &87th) grabbed braces while Fabian Swaby opened the
floodgates after only 32 seconds.
Phillip Riley netted in the
ninth and their leading marksman Loxley Thompson got his 11th
goal of the season in the 45th minute.
Cavaliers need just a draw from
their two remaining games to be crowned champion and the right
to represent KSAFA in the Jamaica Football Federation (JFF)
National Premier League Playoff.
Meanwhile Santos whipped
Constant Spring 3-1 and stayed second on 44 points, two adrift
and is the only team with a chance of catching Cavaliers.
However, the Carlton “Spanner” Dennis-coached outfit does not
have things in their own hands as they have only one game
remaining against Rae Town.
Fabian Nethersole opened the
scoring in the 41st minute for his 15th goal of the season to be
joint second in the goal scoring chart alongside Troyland
Williams of Mountain View and three behind Rae Town’s Damion
Jackson.
Ricardo Martin and Kirk Edwards
completed the scoring for Santos in the 45th and 87th minutes
respectively. Veteran Denzil Mitchell had briefly leveled the
scores for Constant Spring in the 44th minute.
At Breezy Castle, the embattled
Rae Town could only muster a 0-0 draw with the Jamaica Defence
Force (JDF) as their title hopes were dashed in the boardroom on
Thursday.
They were second only a point
behind Cavaliers but lost three points for using an ineligible
player and fell to 39 points in third spot.
With this single point they
inched to 40 points, six behind the leader with only one game
remaining and will have to regroup for next season. The JDF
stayed fifth on 35 points.
Mountain View consolidated
fourth spot with a 1-1 draw with Bull Bay at the Excelsior High
School.
Troyland Williams gave Mountain
View the ascendancy in the 24th minute before Sheldon Madden
equalized for Bull Bay in the 49th.
Mountain View stayed fourth on
38 points but has a game in hand against Cavaliers while Bull
Bay crept to 20 points in 10th spot.
Meanwhile goalkeeper Omar
Williams stole the show for Duhaney Park netting both goals in a
come-from-behind 2-1 win over Barbican. Troy Clue had given
Barbican a 76th minute lead but Williams stepped up and
converted a 78th minute penalty before scoring a freekick two
minutes later.
It was Williams’ fourth and
fifth goals of the season and miraculously he is Duhaney Park’s
top scorer.
Duhaney Park with their seventh
win climbed two spots to seventh on 25 points while Barbican
slipped a spot to ninth with 23 points.
The game between the relegated
duo of Meadhaven United and Maverley was not played because
Maverley arrived late.
Claro Major League
Audley Hanson grabbed five
goals as Rockfort seized the opportunity to assume sole
leadership of the Claro Major league with a whopping 7-0
thrashing of Liguanea United at the Bull Pen.
With previous leader Central
Kingston inactive, Rockfort moved to 38 points from 18 games and
with three round remaining, are very much in the hunt for the
title.
Hanson netted in the 2nd, 10th,
32nd, 50th and 67th minutes taking his tally to nine and joint
fourth in the scoring chart with teammate Rayon Brown who scored
in the 46th minute. Russell Hosang completed the rout in the
66th minute.
With the Central
Kingston/Police National game postponed, Central Kingston
slipped a spot to second on 37 points from 17 games while Police
stayed fourth on 31 points.
Greenwich Town consolidated
fifth spot with a 2-0 win over Molynes United and moved to 30
points, just on the shoulders of Police Nationals. Joseph
Gardner opened the scoring in the 25th before the league top
scorer Ricardo Monroe made it 2-0 in the 47th minute for his
13th goal of the season.
Brown’s Town clobbered
relegation favourites Swallowfield 4-1 at Vauxhall High School.
Colin West gave Swallowfield a 10th minute lead but an own goal
in the 21st minute leveled the score. Graeme Green then gave
Brown’s Town the lead in the 34th minute and further goals in
the 66th and 73rd minutes by Dwayne Wilson and Kemar Gordon
respectively sealed the win. Meanwhile the games involving
Cooreville Gardens/Whitfield Town and Olympic Gardens/UWI was
not played because of waterlogged fields.
Claro Syd Bartlett League
In the Syd Bartlett League
Seaview Gardens extended their lead atop of the Claro Syd
Bartlett League with a crushing 5-0 win over Island Special
Constabulary Force (ISCF). Goals by Andrew Morrison in the first
minute, Roland Young (17th, 67th) and Marvin Brown (22nd, 59th),
pushed Seaview to their ninth win from 14 games and onto 30
points. With two rounds remaining, Seaview have opened up a
four-point gap on second placed Stony Hill which could only
muster a 0-0 draw with third-placed Allman/Woodford. However,
Stony Hill has a game in hand.
Meanwhile Red Hills clipped
Pembroke Hall 1-0 courtesy of a Lawrence Richards goal in the
35th minute.
Red Hills with only their third
win from 14 games are on nine points and are just one behind
eight-placed ISCF and six behind both Pembroke Hall and New
Kingston which lost 1-2 to Shortwood United. Jermaine Malcolm
and Dexter Allen scored in the 11th and 13th minutes
respectively for Shortwood to consolidate fourth spot on 22
points.
Anthony Williams pulled one
back for New Kingston which was suffering their seventh loss and
remained just five points above the last placed team on 15
points.
