Defending champion Tivoli
Gardens put their Claro KSAFA Jackie Bell knockout title on the
line this Sunday when they play Cavaliers in one semi-final at
the Harbour View Mini-Stadium at 6:00pm.
In the other semi-final, Boys’
Town tackle August Town in an all premier league clash in the
curtain raiser starting at 4:00 pm.
Tivoli Gardens, which turned
back the challenge of premier league leader Harbour View in the
quarter final, should prove too much for Super League leader
Cavaliers.
Tivoli defeated Harbour View
3-1 on aggregate after battling to a 1-1 draw in the second leg.
They had won the first leg 2-0 at home.
Meanwhile Cavaliers upset
Waterhouse on the away goal rule after playing to a 1-1 at
Drewsland last Wednesday. The first leg ended 0-0.
Despite their heroics,
Cavaliers will find it extremely hard to deny Tivoli Gardens
from advancing to the finals.
The other semi-final should be
very intriguing as August Town seem to be finding their footing
at the right time and Boys’ Town must be careful despite their
big 13-2 aggregate quarterfinal win.
The Red Brigade outclassed
Major League outfit Greenwich Town 11-0 in the second leg at
Collie Smith Drive after playing to a 2-2 draw in the first leg
at Tinson Pen.
While August Town turned back
the inconsistent premier league team Arnett Gardens 3-0 on
aggregate after playing to a 0-0 draw in their first encounter.
August Town have climbed out of
the premier league relegation zone winning three of their last
four games into seventh spot and should give a good account of
themselves against Boys’ Town.
Rockfort rock Central Kingston in Major League feature
A 66th minute strike from Leon
Maduro gave Rockfort a hard-fought 1-0 win over Central Kingston
in their top-of-the-table Claro KSAFA Major League clash at
Winchester Park on Saturday.
Rockfort which started the day
three points behind in second spot, are now level with Central
Kingston on 33 points but remained second with an inferior goal
difference.
Central Kingston remained in
pole position with a goal difference of plus 24 after scoring 32
goals and conceding eight times. Rockfort have scored 32 while
conceding 12 for a plus 20-goal difference.
With seven sets of games
remaining, it will be an intriguing run to the wire for the
title in what is turning out to be a two horse race. Central
Kingston’s Ricardo Taylor was red carded in the 43rd minute to
give Rockfort the ascendancy before they lost Twaine Winter two
minutes before full time.
At the Edward Seaga Stadium,
home team Police National missed a glorious chance to close the
gap on the leader after playing to a tame 0-0 draw with lowly
Olympic Gardens.
However, they stayed third on
27 points, six behind leaders Central Kingston and Rockfort
while Olympic Gardens remained 11th spot with nine points.
At Vauxhall High School,
Brown’s Town rebounded from last week’s defeat to score an
exciting 3-2 win over Cooreville Gardens.
Daniel Gilzene scored twice for Cooreville in the fourth and
60th minutes but could not prevent Brown’s Town from securing
their fourth win of the season.
Ricardo Sinclair in the 13th levelled the game before Graeme
Green gave the East Kingston team a 39th minute lead. But it
took an 89th minute goal from Trevor Campbell to seal the win
for Brown’s Town.
Brown’s Town climbed a spot into seventh on 20 points while
Cooreville stayed in 10th spot on 12 points, just above the
relegation zone.
It took a last minute goal from
Everton Mattis for Liguanea to peg back Molynes United to a 1-1
draw at Jamaica College.
Sydney Manyon had given the
visiting Molynes a 10th minute lead and looked well on their way
to their second win in their last three games.
But that was not to be as
Mattis had other ideas and struck in the 90+ minutes for a share
of the spoils. Liguanea inched to 21 points in sixth spot while
Molynes stayed ninth five points behind.
Fourth-placed UWI scored the
biggest win of the round trouncing Swallowfield 4-0 courtesy of
a double strike from Anthony Grant in the 29th and 63rd minutes
respectively.
Yashiema Love in the 52nd and
Kenrick Brown in the 53rd completed the rout for UWI which was
notching their eight win from 15 games.
UWI moved to 26 points and
closed the gap on third-placed Police to just one point while
Swallowfield which was losing their 11th game from 14 matches,
remained rooted to the bottom on five points.
Greenwich Town continued their
good run with a comprehensive 3-1 win over Whitfield Town at
Tinson Pen.
Damion Campbell had given the home team a 21st minute lead
before Kemar Haynes equalized for Whitfield four minutes later.
An own goal in the 39th and David Shultz 62nd minute goals
ensured that Greenwich Town stayed fifth on 24 points.
Shultz now moves a clear second
in the goal-scoring chart to nine goals only one behind teammate
Ricardo Monroe on 10.
Whitfield Town with their fifth
loss of the season slipped a spot to eight on 17 points.
