January 11th, 2010

Mountain View Troyland Williams-laid siege and over-ran Constant Spring

Cavaliers gained sole leadership of the Claro Kingston and St Andrew Football Association (KSAFA) Super League with a 2-0 blanking of Maverley/Hughenden after Rae Town were held to a goalless draw. A double strike from David Laylor in the 25th and 65th minutes pushed Cavaliers to their 10th win of the season and onto 34 points. They are now two ahead of Rae Town.

Maverley’s miserable run continued as they suffered their 12th defeat in 14 games to remain firmly rooted to the bottom of the Super League with four points.

At Buttercup Park, the visiting Rae Town found the going tough and could only muster a 0-0 draw with Real Mona.  Rae Town, which started the day in front on 31 points, but just ahead of Cavaliers on goal difference, slipped a spot to second after failing to break down Real Mona.

Rae Town with the leading goalscorer Damion Jackson, could not add to his 14-goal tally as they drew their fifth game of the season and it left them two points behind Cavalier in what is shaping up to be another close title race.

Meanwhile Troyland Williams stole the show grabbing a hattrick as Mountain View came from behind to whip Constant Spring 4-1 at the Spring Complex. Williams netted in the 39th, 43rd and 62nd minutes, taking his tally to 10 and joint second on the goal scoring chart with Santos’ Fabian Nethersole and four behind Jackson’s 14.

An own goal in the 86th minute completed Constant Spring’s nightmare after veteran striker Denzil Mitchell had given them a seventh minute lead. Mountain View with their seventh win stayed third with 28 points, only six off the leader. Meanwhile Constant Spring, which was suffering only their third defeat of the season, slipped a spot to sixth on 24 points.

The prolific Fabian Nethersole scored in the 75th minute as Santos edged Barbican FC 1-0 at the Bell/Chung Oval to stay in touch with the leaders.

Nethersole, who was notching his 10th goal of the campaign, pushed Santos to their ninth win and onto 28 points, the same as third placed Mountain View but with an inferior goal difference.

Barbican stayed in eighth placed with 16 points and are now five points off the seventh-placed team Real Mona on 21 points.

At Up Park Camp, home team Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) and Bull Bay battled to a 2-2 draw in an entertaining encounter.

The marching men of the JDF raced to an early two-goal advantage
courtesy of goals from Robert Wright and Garvey Simms in the 16th and 37th minutes respectively.  But in what looked like three points in the bag for JDF was whittled away in two minutes.

Andrew Morris pulled one back for Bull Bay in the 88th minute in what seemed like a consolation goal before Bevill Grossett grabbed a share of the spoils with a 90th minute equaliser.

However, as disappointed as they were, the JDF inched to 25 points, which was enough for them to leapfrogged Constant Spring into fifth placed with 25 points.
Bull Bay with their sixth drawn game stayed ninth on 12 points in the 12-team league.
The game between the struggling Meadhaven United and Duhaney Park was not played because the field was not properly prepared.

Nicholas Brown scored a minute before full time as Allman/Woodford came from behind to hold New Kingston to a draw at Heroes Circle.
Nevada Dennis had given New Kingston an early lead scoring in the very first minute of play.
