PRE MATCH COMMENTS
Coach Danny Lyn feels that both
teams are evenly match, and today will boils down to which team
wants it more. “The position that both teams are in makes it
that more interesting. We are defending an unbeaten run at home
and if we refocus from last week’s victory, we can get all three
points. Mountain View scored some 8 or 12 goals in their last
three games and we scored 8, Expect goals today, we are taking
the long ball out of our system and start to move the ball
around a lot more so one can expect good football”.
Omar Stanley on the other hand
was somewhat upbeat about his team’s chances of winning the
game. ”Definitely attacking football, because it the early
rounds we weren’t getting enough goals and now we are scoring
about 3 goals per game in our last 4 games so we want to attack
from the first whistle. We as a team will attack from the flanks
as here is where our strength lies, right side and left side.
Strictly attacking football today”. He further stated that his
team has some injuries to key players and they have brought in
some of the reserves to the starting eleven and he expected them
to do well.
Attacking Teams Square Off
Having scored some 20 goal
between them in their last three games, a high scoring affair
was expected by many with Constant Spring given the edge been at
home as well as their 4- 0 thrashing of former joint leader Rae
Town a week earlier.
The usual warm up was affected
by the late arrival of the visitors who had transportation
problem, leaving Constant Spring as the only team to warm up
before the game, and in the windy condition that existed, they
were doing what was expected, passing the ball and
multidirectional movement to get ready for the game of football.
The Expected Fast Start
With Mountain View arriving at
game time, they were not able to do their pre- match warm up and
had to take the field immediately, as a result the match started
some 10 minutes late. Bearing in mind that the team were not
match ready at the start, one would expect some adjustment to
the team attacking tactics, fortunately for Constant Spring this
was not the case as the boys from the East were as aggressive as
the homesters from the word go. Constant Spring seemed to have
the
upper hand during the first five minutes, mounting the more
potent attacks, although Mountain View were somewhat lethargic
due their late arrival, and their not changing to accommodate
the existing situation. It was not surprising when Constant
Spring took the lead in the 6th minute through their captain and
return transferee Denzil Mitchell, who made no mistake from
close range.
Mountain Views Gut
response-the fight back
The goal while not surprising
was stinging and made the visitors more determined to attack but
could have conceded a second in the 12th and 16th minutes had
Constant Spring put away even one of these easy chances.
Mountain Views wingers were bent on carrying the ball whenever
they get it, obviously their style of play, they were content
with trying to go down to the byline and put the square
in for the strikers. Meanwhile Constant Spring trying not to be
out done by the visitors, eventually ran a few of their key
players into hiding on the field of play pretty early in the
contest, and after 20 minutes the easterners temperature rose
and they took over the control of the midfield and the flanks.
In the windy condition the regular aerial balls from both were
really undesirable hence the absence of the expected passes from
the home team. The knowledge of basic football was
missing. Even though we had a contest on our hand, the teams
were following the ball so much that on some 4 occasion they
occupy less than 30% of the field, save the Mountain Views Goal
Keeper.
The beginning of Hat Trick-William of Troy
Mountain View
Troyland Williams-laid siege and over-ran Constant Spring
In minute 28, Constant Spring
conceded a free kick near the right angle on the left outside
their penalty area and up came the man of the match Troyland
Williams with his first strike, a powerful left footer for which
the Constant Spring custodian had no answer. (to note however
that all the teams in local football don’t seem to set the wall
properly, as we sometimes see the taller players in the middle
or nearer to the keeper).
For the next fifteen minutes
even though they were tiring, the visitors were more in command
of the midfield and continued the attack. The rare counter
attach could not bear fruit for the home boys as their tired
legs could not support them in putting away the chances that
came their way, instead they gave another free kick to Mountain
View in the 42nd minute, and like the first not a man move when
Toyland Williams boots touched the ball. Advantage Mountain
View, first half.
The Second Half
The referee whistle got
Constant Spring to the usual fast start, which they were unable
to maintain through the half, suddenly they gave the ball on a
regular basis to the away team and the visitors were kind enough
to return the favor outside the FIFA fair play gesture. The
scanty team display increased the stress on the legs of both
teams which is what happens when teams are not fit for a 90
minutes game; the gap between the attackers and the midfield
grew wider as the game progressed, but it was Constant Spring
who look like they were ready to take command; however
the failure to put proper measure to ward off the infrequent
counter widened the gap when Toyland Williams was tripped in the
penalty area and the referee pointed to the spot.
This was according to the
script and Williams made them pay. After the goal, Spring
started to revive and took the attack to them. If it weren’t for
a few good saves from keeper Andrew Sewell, the homesters could
have leveled the score. At this juncture, the homesters were
looking to give the spectators their monies worth when they
conceded an own goal in the 86 minute and dashed a chances of
even coming out with a point. As a result they were relieved
from their troubles when the final whistle blow-they lost at
home for the first time at last this season.
Post Game Comments
Omar Stanley, obviously the
more satisfied coach, felt that his team did just what they came
to Spring to do, to continue to score goals .”This win puts us
in striking distance of the leaders and that is what we want to
do”. “As long as we keep scoring, the sky is the limit” he said.
In response to the question of his apparent tired team, he said
that they recognize that they will have to do more in this area
and the plan is to get the guys to training more often. ”We
started out slowly because we didn’t get to warm but as soon as
we got our rhythm, the goals came”.
Delroy Stephens of Constant Spring said that his team just
didn’t play according to instructions and “that’s why we lost
the game; we got our chances and we didn’t put them away they
got theirs and they put away “, He further said that the team
was not training regularly and his job is to get them in shape
in the coming weeks.
Fitness The Number One
Problem
From the very first unbridled
view and every subsequent issue concerns were raised about the
player’s fitness for the 90 minutes game, some may argue that
the teams are in fact training as they play football every day,
well if this is true then what could be the reason behind the
obvious lack of fitness? To do this we have to examine some of
the prevailing myth that seem to be very deep in our society and
the world.
That
the harder you work the fitter you get, the truth is that
success does not lie solely in hard work, one have to work smart
( not anancism but knowledgeable and clever )” If athletes are
doing too much, too often they become over trained. You can
expect an increase in injuries, more frequent soreness,
decreased performance and higher levels of fatigue earlier in
games. It is always better for an athlete to under train than
over train. Err on the side of caution to get maximal results”.
Patrick Beith USA Level II track and field coach and a Peak
Performance Magazine writer on speed training
To
run fast you have to get up on your toes. This is one of the
biggest misnomers in the speed circle worldwide. This writer
does not support this myth and will encourage everyone to
reframe from telling our young athletes to run on the toes, in
sprinting the foot meets ground with ankle slightly extended
directly under center of gravity. Bodyweight is balanced so that
only the ball of the foot touches the ground and not the toes
which is weak and tires the sprinter quicker than normal. ( More
on this later)
The
wall in football should be like a wall in reality, should not be
moving or provide openings for the ball to go through, this is
why the goal keeper want from his teammates, as we all know the
width of the goal is 8 yards, it can sometimes take 3 or 4
players to block four to five yards low from the shooter leaving
the keeper to defend 3 or 4 yards , with this in mind the taller
players should be away from the center of the goal and in
graduation to center according to height
