Cavaliers edged closer to
securing the KSAFA Claro Super League with a close 1-0 win over
Constant Spring at the Spring Field yesterday. The diminutive
Loxley Thompson notched the all-important goal in the 27th
minute as Cavaliers grabbed their 12th win from 17 matches. It
was Thompson’s eighth goal of the season as Cavaliers maintained
their two-point lead atop the standing with 40 points with five
rounds remaining. Constant Spring which was suffering their
fifth loss of the season remained in sixth-placed on 24 points
and mathematically, cannot win the league.
At the Breezy Castle, home team
Rae Town whipped Duhaney Park 3-1 to stay in touch with leader
Cavaliers. The skilful James Durrant opened the scoring for Rae
Town in the 11th minute for his fourth goal of the season. Renel
Colley doubled the advantage in the 34th. Kamberi Dixon pulled
one back for Duhaney Park in the 68th minute before Orlando
Walters sealed the win for Rae Town two minutes from full time.
Rae Town, the highest scoring team in the league with 38 goals
and with a goal difference of 27, remained second with 38
points, just two behind Cavaliers in what is expected to be a
close fight to the end. Both Rae Town and Cavaliers will clash
in a mammoth encounter next week that could very well be the
title decider. Duhaney Park stayed in ninth with 16 points seven
above the relegation zone with five rounds remaining.
Meanwhile at the Bell/Chung
Oval, Santos scored two late goals to sink the JDF 2-0 and kept
alive their slim chance of winning the Super League. With the
game looking to peter out into a tame draw, Victor Samuels and
Nicholas McCreath popped up with goals in the 88th and 90th
minutes respectively for a crucial win. Santos are on 34 points
six behind Cavaliers and four behind Rae Town in what is
basically a three team race to the wire. JDF with their third
defeat are out of contention and will need a miracle to win the
title faltering 12 points behind.
At Buttercup Park, the visiting
Mountain View reignited their title challenge with a 2-0 win
over Real Mona to be seven points off the leader. Troyland
Williams netted both goals in the 82nd and 84th minute for his
12th and 13th goals of the season. He is just two behind Damion
Jackson of Rae Town on 15 and two ahead of Santos’ Fabian
Nethersole on 11 in the race for the golden boot award. Real
Mona despite slipping to their sixth defeat remained in seventh
on 21 points in mid table with nothing to play for. They cannot
win the league and are well clear of the relegation zone.
Struggling Meadhaven surprised Barbican 2-0 at the Duhaney Park
Field in their fight against relegation. Goals by Tamaro Smith
and Omary Edwards in the 74th and 90th minutes respectively
secured only Meadhaven’s second win from 17 games. They moved to
nine points in 11th spot, still six points behind the
10th-placed team Bull Bay in their relegation fight. They are
now five points above bottom team Maverley/Hughenden. Duhaney
Park remained in ninth spot on 16 points and are still in danger
of relegation if they are not careful.
Meanwhile Bull Bay scored a
crucial 2-1 win over Maverley in another relegation battle at
the Maverley Field. Bevill Grossett gave Bull Bay a 16th minute
lead before Kryshon Dryden pull Maverley level in the 29th
minute. But Sheldon Madden had other ideas and his 80th goal
proved to be decisive as Bull Bay earned three crucial points.
They are now on 15 points in 10th spot, just six above the
relegation zone with Maverley remained rotted to the bottom with
four points and look set to play Major League football next
season.
Major League
Meanwhile Central Kingston
could swap places with Maverley after they brushed aside home
team Cooreville Gardens 3-0. Devon Johnson scored a hattrick in
the 22nd, 28th & 58th minutes taking his goal tally to eight to
be joint second Ricardo Monroe of Greenwich Town on 10. Central
Kingston which started the day only one point ahead, extended
their lead atop the league to three points on 33 points and are
looking good to capture the Major League. Cooreville Gardens
with their eighth defeat from 14 games, are only four points
above the relegation zone and must be worrying.
At Vauxhall High School, home
team Rockfort hammered Swallowfield 7-0 to jump into second spot
on 30 points. Two goals apiece by Rayon Brown (49th & 58th)
taking his tally to eight and joint second and Jeremaine
Freckleton (68th & 82nd) led three other scorers in the biggest
win in the round. Twaine Winter (22nd), Royan Nelson (40th) and
Jason McKnight (86th) completed the massacre. Swallowfield with
their 10th loss from 13 games remained on five points at the
bottom and must be preparing for Syd Bartlett football next
season.
Meanwhile Police could not make
a breakthrough against Molynes United and had to settle for a 0-
draw at Molyned Field. The lawmen dropped two crucial points and
lost second spot with 26 points and are now seven points adrift
of the leader. Molynes inched to 15 points in ninth position and
cannot feel safe just seven points above the relegation zone.
At the UWI Bowl, UWI scored an
emphatic 4-0 win over Whitfield to maintain fourth spot with 23
points. Goals by Kenrick Brown (17th), Anthony Grant (68th),
Brandon Thomas (70th) and Owen Hill in the 87th led UWI to their
seventh win of the season. For Whitfield it was their fourth
loss of the campaign and they stayed seventh on 17 points.
Three players grabbed doubles
as Greenwich Town mauled Liguanea 7-1 at Tinson Pen. Ricardo
Munroe opened the scoring in the very first minute and got his
second in the 41, David Stultz notched his in the 23rd & 88th
minutes while Kevin Bartley scored in the 29th & 44th minutes.
Christopher Stewart with a 52nd minute strike completed the huge
win. Ricardo Robertson scored the lone goal for Liguanea in the
56th minute after Greenwich Town had banged in six goals
already. Greenwich Town leapfrogged Liguanea into fifth spot
with 21 points while Liguanea slipped a spot to sixth on 20
points.
Over at Cling Cling Oval, home
team Olympic Gardens scored a rare win clipping Brown’s Town
2-1. It was their first in eight games. Adrian Kitson netted
both goals in the 16th & 59th minutes as Olympic Gardens notched
only their second win of the season from 14 games. They are
still in trouble languishing second from bottom with eight
points, four behind the 10th-placed team and three above bottom
team Swallofield. Dwayne Byfield had briefly leveled the scores
for Brown’s Town in the 19th minute but could not prevent them
from suffering their third defeat of the season. The East
Kingston team remained in eighth spot on 17 points.
Allman/Woodford hold slender
lead in Syd Bartlett League
Joint leader Shortwood United
were shocked 0-1 by Pembroke Hall at the Shortwood Field on
Sunday. Hanif Shand converted a 12th penalty as Pembroke Hall
registered their fifth win from nine games but remained in fifth
spot on 15 points. Shortwood which started the day on top lost a
spot to be second on 19 points after suffering their first loss
of the season from 10 games.
With Stony Hill idle this week,
Allman/ Woodford grabbed pole position despite being held to a
2-2 draw with Seaview Gardens at Heroes Circle. Michael Isaacs
scored a brace in the fifth and 45th minutes to give Allman/Woodford
the ascendancy, but two goals in two minutes by Roland Young and
Mark Witter in the 77th and 79th minutes ensured that Seaview
walked away with a share of the points. Allman/Woodford moved to
20 points, one ahead of both Shortwood and Stony Hill. Seaview
stayed fourth only a point behind on 19 points in which only one
point separates the top four.
Meadforest blanked Red Hills
3-0 in a crucial relegation battle and moved four points clear
of the relegation zone. Goals by Ian Davis in the 13th, Richard
Brown 55th and Khalid Chamber 79th pushed Meadforest to their
third win of the season from nine games and up to 11 points. For
Red Hills, thing continue to look bleak as they crashed to their
ninth defeat from 10 games to be rooted to the bottom on three
points. They are eight points behind Meadforest and four behind
second from bottom Island Constabulary Force which lost 0-1 to
New Kingston courtesy of a Henry Reid 47th minute strike. The
Lawmen remained in eighth spot on seven points while New
Kingston stayed sixth with 15 points.
