Donna McFarlane Director/ Curator

As the first Director/Curator of Liberty Hall, Donna McFarlane has an opportunity to create a multifaceted learning environment in which adults and children who live in the inner-city communities that surround the facility have an opportunity to learn about the philosophy and opinions of Jamaica’s first National Hero while attaining skills that are useful for their economic and social development. Her role is also to attract local and international visitors to Liberty Hall to share in the reverence of Garvey and to access information on Africa and the African Diaspora. As Curator, she oversees the development and installation of multimedia exhibitions in the Marcus Mosiah Garvey Multimedia Museum.

 

Constance Dunkley Administrator/Co-ordinator, Outreach Programme

Constance Dunkley provides administrative support for Liberty Hall and the Friends of Liberty Hall Foundation; assists the Director/Curator with the drafting of grant proposals and co-ordinates logistical support as required. As the Programmes Co-ordinator, she manages the Liberty Hall Outreach Programme for adults and children in the surrounding communities.

   

 

Nicosia Shakes Researcher

In her role as Researcher, Nicosia Shakes is chiefly responsible for the collection and presentation of information on Marcus Garvey’s philosophy, life and work. She liases with both local and foreign research institutions to gather materials pertaining to Marcus Garvey and the UNIA, and is the chief researcher for exhibitions in the Marcus Mosiah Garvey Multimedia Museum. Liberty Hall’s annual journal: 76 King Street is edited by her.

 

Chantel DaCosta Research Officer

While Nicosia Shakes acts as Director during Ms. McFarlane’s one year absence from office, Chantel DaCosta will assume her roles in researching and presenting information on Marcus Garvey’s life, work and philosophy.

   
  Kameisha Morris Librarian

As Librarian, Kameisha Morris oversees the acquisition and cataloguing of materials for the Garvey Research/Reference Library. She assists students, researchers and other users with their search for information, and ensures the proper use of books, periodicals and audio-visual materials. Kameisha updates the public about Liberty Hall’s activities through our quarterly newsletter “Liberty Hall Speaks.” She also works with Claudette Innis, Teacher in the After School Programme to coordinate Liberty Hall’s annual reading competition.

   
  Claudette Innis and Grace Bartlett Part – time Teachers, After-School Programme

Claudette Innis and Grace Bartlett provide the children in Liberty Hall’s After-School Programme with an environment designed for learning and the enhancement of intellectual growth. They focus on enhancing the children’s literacy skills through English and Language Arts, as well as developing their cognitive abilities through activities such as stories, audio-visual materials and educational computer programmes.

   
  Martin Morrison Part – time Computer Teacher- Adult Programme

Martin Morrison is responsible for equipping adults in the communities surrounding Liberty Hall with basic computer skills. He teaches classes in the use of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel Publisher and Power Point) and internet services. Marcus Garvey’s philosophy, and the history and culture of Africa and the African Diaspora are incorporated into his curriculum

   

 

Andrew Brown Museum Guide/Gift Shop Operator

Andrew Brown is responsible for scheduling and conducting tours in the Marcus Mosiah Garvey Multimedia Museum and ensuring the smooth operation of the Gift Shop. As a graphic designer, Andrew also designs publicity resources for Liberty Hall, including flyers, promotional CDs and brochures.

Linton McKenzie Part –time Handyman
