There is nothing, in my opinion, more gratifying than tearing my house apart to put it back together again. I purchased my first home about ten years ago from a little old lady. I bet my life on the fact that nothing had been improved on it since it was built in 1962. Nothing was upgraded. The house was built and that’s exactly how it looked when I purchased it, forty four years later. When I finally became the owner of that home, it was obvious that there was a lot of work to do.
Prior to owning this home, I had some experience with DIY home improvement projects. I could paint, change cupboard handles, and maybe install a toilet…maybe. This house taught me that I had a lot to learn. I also learned that home improvement takes time and that you’re going to fall along the way. This site is dedicated to those who, like me, want to get up and try again.
I felt so inspired and proud of that first house that, since then, I have made it my passion to write about what it takes to fix a home. I realized that I wasn’t the only one who likes to buy shabby homes and improve them. This site is for those who share that passion and would love to acquire a little more information on how to facilitate your home improvement experiences.
