The Marcus Mosiah Garvey Multimedia Museum Opens!                                  :: Archives

On Sunday, October 15, 2006, the Prime Minister of Jamaica, The Most Hon. Portia Simpson-Miller will officially open the Marcus Mosiah Garvey Multimedia Museum.  The product of three years of hard work; this is the first and only museum on Marcus Garvey in the world  and the first multimedia museum in Jamaica, employing the use of interactive touch screens.  The debut exhibition is titled: “Marcus Garvey: The Movement and the Philosophy.” Visitors are able to stand at a touch screen and, at the touch of a finger, access over three hours of information on Marcus Garvey in the form of video, audio, text and photographs. In our small theatre section, visitors may also view films on Marcus Garvey, and African history and culture.  Soon we will put on display, our collection of Garvey artifacts, which include actual pages from The Blackman and The New Jamaican newspapers edited by Garvey in Jamaica and Marcus Garvey’s walking stick. The museum has been open to the public since August 17, 2006, Marcus Garvey’s 119th birthday. Over one hundred persons have visited it so far and the numbers will rise as the word spreads.

The Marcus Mosiah Garvey Multimedia museum is open from 10:00 a.m to 4:00 p.m. from Mondays to Fridays. Large groups may call: 948-8639/40 or e-mail us at libertyhall@cwjamaica.com  to schedule tours.  Admission is 100 dollars per adult and 40 dollars for senior citizens and children.
